Event History

The KIS Golf Classic is a yearly fundraising event honoring current and former Olympians for the benefit of Kids In Sports. This year we have the pleasure of honoring Cynthia Cooper, 1998 US Olympic Gold Medalist, 4-time WNBA Champion & Finals MVP, and current Head Coach, USC Women's Basketball.

The annual event was renamed in 2003 in memory of John C. Argue.  Mr. Argue, a leading civic figure in Southern California, was instrumental in bringing the 1984 Olympic Games to Los Angeles and for more than 20 years played a key role in the success of a wide variety of business, community, educational and philanthropic endeavors. He was founding chairman and a champion for Kids In Sports.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Kids In Sports works year-round with parents, school and neighborhood volunteers to build and manage six neighborhood sports clubs which bring quality programs to kids in low-income communities throughout Los Angeles County.

These sports clubs provide opportunities for over 8,000 boys and girls each year to learn and have fun playing baseball, basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball and swimming. Kids In Sports boys and girls increase their levels of healthy activity and fitness, experience the thrill of being part of a team and gain self-confidence from learning and mastering new sports skills.

KIS provides equipment and uniforms to outfit each kid, recruits and trains neighborhood adults as coaches and key sports club leaders and supplies certified officials to teach safety and technique. Through KIS sports clubs, parks and playgrounds become more youth-friendly and schools become more a center of community life.

Your participation in the seventeenth annual Kids In Sports John C. Argue Memorial Golf Classic will further KIS' mission and help us continue to build communities, one team at a time.
